Emily Jean "Emma" Stone was born November 6, 1988 in Scottsdale, Arizona, the daughter of Krista Yeager, a homemaker, and Jeff Stone, a contractor. She was a member of the Valley Youth Theatre while growing up, a regional theater in Phoenix, Arizona, where she appeared in her first stage production, The Wind in the Willows, at the age of 11.
According to Variety, Emma Stone will star as the female lead in The Amazing Spider-Man, a reboot by Columbia Pictures and Marvel Entertainment of the Spider-Man film series. She plays Gwen Stacy, Peter Parker's love interest, in the Marc Webb-directed film.
Gwendolyn "Gwen" Stacy appears as a supporting character in Marvel Comics' Spider-Man series. Created by writer Stan Lee and artist Steve Ditko, she first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #31 (December 1965).
A blonde college co-ed, Gwen becomes the first love of Peter Parker (Spider-Man). Green Goblin kills Gwen in The Amazing Spider-Man #121 (June 1973). Both the decision to kill Gwen and the method in which Marvel implemented it remain controversial among fans, but the death became a pivotal point in both Spider-Man’s history and in American comic books in general. Many point to Gwen's death as the end of the so-called Silver Age of comics. Spider-Man writers and fans disagree about who is the character’s “one true love”: Gwen or his subsequent wife Mary Jane Watson, but Gwen was plainly his first love.
Marc Webb will take over the directing reins from previous "Spider-Man" helmer Sam Raimi, with James Vanderbilt penning the script. Avi Arad and Laura Ziskin will produce.
According to Webb, Stone became the clear frontrunner as the blonde Gwen Stacy given her chemistry with Garfield. "Much to my surprise, it was fun to find out that our choice for Gwen (Emma) is also a natural blonde," Webb added.
Emma Stone has been a consistent player for Sony, with roles in "Superbad" and "Zombieland." Her most recent role for the studio is in "Easy A," which has become a B.O. success, budgeted at $8 million and earning more than $40 million in domestic grosses.
Emma Stone joins a recent crop of Sony faves that includes Garfield and "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" star Rooney Mara. Both co-starred in "The Social Network."
The "Spider-Man" pic is set to go into production in December and will be released in 3D on July 3, 2012.
Stone can be seen next year in Warner Bros.' "Crazy, Stupid, Love," opposite Steve Carell and Ryan Gosling, and in "The Help," with Bryce Dallas Howard, Sissy Spacek and Viola Davis. Stone has a cameo in Screen Gems' "Friends With Benefits" and will lend her voice to DreamWorks Animation's "The Croods."
